Graduation Canceled for the Class of 2020
The graduation ceremony for the class of 2020, originally set to be May 30, has officially been canceled. This afternoon, April 16, Head of School Mariandl Hufford and Upper School Director Jill Robert sent out an email reassuring families in announcing this sad news.
“This is the email that we hoped to never have to write, but due to the insurmountable risk of bringing together so many people in one location, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s in-person graduation ceremony,” they wrote in Thursday’s message.
The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, where graduation was supposed to be held, has officially canceled all events through May. This prompted the message from Hufford and Robert to be sent out today.
There will be a virtual event on May 30 to commemorate the seniors’ time at MCDS. The administrators also wrote that there will be an “in-person senior celebration” when it is ”safe to do so.” Details on that event will be forthcoming, and we will report them.
Tomorrow, April 17, Robert will send out a podcast to the seniors in which more details of this plan will be released.
