Senior Convocation
Let 2017-2018 Begin
On August 20th, the Miami Shores Country Club hosted Miami Country Day School’s Senior Convocation for the Class of 2018. This was the second year the event was held here, and over 400 people attended. The program included a quote from author Nora Ephron that stated, “Your education is a dress rehearsal of a life that is yours to lead,” emphasizing the importance of high school and college. The evening opened with words from Donald Ball and senior class president John Sayfie, who spoke about the epiphany he was sure all of his classmates had experienced, the “moment of realization and panic” that this was their final year at home. Dinner was also provided for the guests: a carving station, pasta bar, salad station and desserts were all distributed to the crowd of families and friends. A witty sparkling cider toast was given toward the end of the night by Mr. Stephen Brennan, the sponsor of the class of 2018. Finally, John Wicker and his ensemble, along with seven high school musicians played Johann Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” to the end the night.
Overall, it was a night of bonding and preparation for the upcoming year for the 114 seniors. They were put in the right mindset for the upcoming year and wished good luck by the faculty.
